Race Report Singapore Marathon 2012

Like many keen runners, I have been preparing for the 2 Dec 2012 marathon for about 6 months. I completed at least 1 long run of 20km almost every week since June, including 5 actual half marathon races, including 4 longer run of at least 30km, with the longest at 33 km. Achieved 3 half marathon pb and pb for the full marathon.

Before the SCSM, I was hoping to run close to 4 hr 30min and also excited about running in the actual race. I told myself to keep claim and run a steady race.
Set my alarm to 2.45 am, but I became fully awake only at  3 am.  I quickly had my breakfast of bread with peanut butter and coffee, clear my bowel and bath. Took a taxi at 4.15 and reached the start point at mandarin gallery at 4.30 am. Walked all the way from the start point to the entry point, as start pen are all barricaded. Can feel the excitement of the runners around me, anxious to see how they perform after months of dedicated training. I think real runners are always anxious to see improvement in their timing!

The race started at 5.00am sharp, took me about 2 minutes to reach the start line. Started really slow, about 8-9 km per hour. The first few kilometres are uneventful, try to past time by looking around at people, buildings etc. reached 5  km in 30 min. Reached the floating platform about 7 km, the sky is still dark, the really nothing much to see. 10 km was around the end of the bridge after Nicoll highway, time about 1 hr 4 min. Just before Ford road, saw this old man who was running in a rather ungainly manner and breathing quite heavily and loud, but I must say he was in fact quite fast for his year. (think about 60 plus) To be continue....
