Race Report Singapore Marathon 2012

Like many keen runners, I have been preparing for the 2 Dec 2012 marathon for about 6 months. I completed at least 1 long run of 20km almost every week since June, including 5 actual half marathon races, including 4 longer run of at least 30km, with the longest at 33 km. Achieved 3 half marathon pb and pb for the full marathon. Before the SCSM, I was hoping to run close to 4 hr 30min and also excited about running in the actual race. I told myself to keep claim and run a steady race. Set my alarm to 2.45 am, but I became fully awake only at  3 am.  I quickly had my breakfast of bread with peanut butter and coffee, clear my bowel and bath. Took a taxi at 4.15 and reached the start point at mandarin gallery at 4.30 am. Walked all the way from the start point to the entry point, as start pen are all barricaded. Can feel the excitement of the runners around me, anxious to see how they perform after months of dedicated training. I think real runners are always anxious to see improvement

SCB Marathon 2012

Finished in a pb of 4 hours 57min 53sec. It was a tough race, I paid the price for not training enough. When you are struggling during the later part of the race, the feeling is just bad.

Long run before Standard Chartered Marathon 2012

The longest run I have done to date is the 33 km ECP run on 18 Nov 2013, clocked a time of 3hr 26min plus.  I struggled a lot during this run, just feel so weak after 20 km, had to really force myself to run at a really slow pace of about 9.1 to 9.5 km/hr. I did the 1st 20 km in 1hr 55min plus but was slow all the way from 20 km onwards. No more run of above 20 km after that, so I am wondering how I will fare tomorrow. By the way I did achieved a pb of 1hr57min plus at the Real Run 2012. Wishing all runners all the best for the SCB marathon, be positive and run easy !

30 km ECP Run Recap

Started run at 6.04 am on 22 Sep 2012 with my running mate and for the 1st time his  buddy who has a pb of 3hr 38min marathon. It was a relax 1st 10 km in 1 hr flat, the usual chatting along the way. Reached 20 km in almost 2 hr flat as well, still  chatting along. For me as the least season runner. It's beginning to feel a little tired in the legs but still holding well. Started to feel really hot at about 26 km, had a water break and on with the run. By this time both my mates had already passed me, try to run strong, not letting my speed go below 10.5 km/hr. Eventually finishing in 2hr 58min36sec.

Run Review Army Half Marathon

I have completed 4 half marathon this year and has been doing 20+km long run during weekend since Jun. I can see the benefit of these long runs, although my timing has not improve significantly. As usual, the start line is always pact with runners, we took about us about 3 minutes to reach the start point. Boring 3 to 5 km of being stuck in the crowd, averaging about 10.3km per hour, with a few  bottleneck along the way which slow the pace. Reached the 10 km mark in 56min55 sec or so, not too bad. At about the 12 km mark, my buddy broke off and speeded up, loose him totally from the 13 km on. Still running comfortably , reached the 15 km mark in 1hour 24 min , feel ok but dare not push myself too much. Reached 17 km in 1 hour 36min, not much time left for me to finish in under 2 hours. I was still feeling confident that I can still finish under sub 2 hour, so I just continue to run at about 10.5km per hour speed.. When I reached 19 km, I was left with about 12 min. Hit the 20 km mar

Army Half Marathon 9 Sep 2012

Achieved a PB of 1 hours 58min 24sec, could have done better. Completed the the 1st 10km in about 57min and the 2nd 10km in 55min, average pace was 10.7km/h or 5min36.76sec. If I can keep up with my weekly long run of 25-30km, should be able to clock 4hr 45min for SCB marathon on 2 Dec 2012. Have to put in some work to improve my core muscles more.

Training

Did 2 training run in the afternoon at east coast 3.30 pm recently. The heat can have really a big impact on the running time, clocked 1hr 55 min and 1hr 59 min. Although the timing was not too bad but the feeling was like it was much more difficult. Also did a 30 km on 1 sep 2012, saturday, clocked 2hr 58min 57sec. Managed to avoid any cramp in the legs, so my training has proven to be be beneficial. If I can keep it up, should be able to clock a 4hr 45min or faster for the 2 dec SCB marathon.

Recent Few Runs

Completed my 3rd half marathon on 14 July 2012, Marina 21K, in 2 hr 00min 28.2sec. It was a night race, it started at 7.30 pm, the race started at Punggol, the run passed through the new punggol water front park, part of the race was over gravel path and was wet from the earlier shower. A large part of the race was run through the park connector between seng kang and punggol and ended at the start point. I have improved on my timing due to long run of at least 20km every weekend since mid Jun. On Saturday, 4 Aug 2012, completed the usual 20km run at East Coast Park in 1hr 55min 11sec, it is my best run at east coast since Jun. Felt good during the run, I just try to maintain the pace at a constant 6min per km and accelerated only during the last 3 km. Also started to do some push-up and leg lift to improve core muscle 2 weeks ago. Can feel some improvement of the core muscle and do not feel so sore after long run. I can feel my mental strength improve as well, do not give up so easil

Run on 21 Jul 2012 at East Coast

Start run at 6.41 am from Ford road car park, we decided to do a longer run today. Was a little slow to warm up today, did not have a good start to the day. Woke up a little late at 5.31 am and had to rush to meet my buddy at 6.15 am. Started slow, running around 6-6.10 per km pace for the first 3km. Picked up a little during the next few km, was running about 6min per km by the 7 km or so. Did not feel good at about 8.8 km, stomach discomfort until about 12 plus km . Tried to maintain about slightly below 6/km until about 18.7km, could not hang on anymore, ask my buddy to go ahead. Decided to consume a pack of gel and has another water break at the toilet. From them on, just tried to maintain a slow pace and run/walk till 22.5 km. From then on decided to just hang on and run all the way till the end. Accelerated from 6 to about 5.30/km towards the end. Total distance covered 24.26 km in 2 hr 31min 42sec. I think the bad run today is due to my not clearing my not having clearing my bow

Marina 21 km on 14 July 2012

Completed my 3rd half marathon this year in a personal best of 2hr 00min 28.2sec. I pulled my hamstring on 9 Jul 2012, otherwise I could have achieve a much faster time. I was quite disappointed as I have been training well for the last 1 month. Looking forward to my saturday run at east coast.

Break through in training

Went running with my running mate at East Coast Park on 16 jun 2012. Finally I manage a run beyond 17 km, we covered about 20.92 km according to my Polar device in 2 hours 1 min 10 sec. He is definitely the fitter runner, I manage this with his help. Looking forward to the next run. I ran the half at Sundown event on 26 may 2012, finished in 2hr 17 min

Run watch

Just purchased a Polar RS300X sd on 12 May 2012 and tried it out this morning. Covered 14.3km in 1 hr 30 min 12 sec. I am motivated to run further as I am now able to quite accurately know the distance I am covering with the foot pod and GPS.

Half marathon

Completed a half marathon on Sunday morning at the 350 run, finished in a pb of 2hours 4min 12sec. Ran a consistent race almost through out the course. This is an improvement of about 9 mins over my previous best. Started in the middle of about 4 thousand runners at about 6.15 am, at a slow pace of probably 7 min per km. I was comfortable running a slow pace, I was actually thinking its a long race, take it slow and pick up the pace as the race progress. I was feeling good the first 3 to 4 km, reaching 5km in 28min 47 sec. I  though to myself, good progress, lets keep a comfortable pace. The next 5 km was smooth for me, not fast, about 6 to 6.15 per km. I hit the 10 km mark in 58m 14 sec. The 11 km mark was around the Singapore Indoor Stadium, it was about 1hr 4min plus. Still feeling good at about 14 km mark at the Nicoll highway, but started to feel a little tired. I was comtemplating whether I should pop a pack of gel, but resisted as I have not seen anyone doing so.

Run a 10 km

Just ran a 10 km at the stadium near where I live in 53min 0.33 sec, 25 laps of a standard 400m track in a pair of adizero Ace 3m on saturday 14 April 2012. Doing my 4th JP Morgan run Singapore on 19 April 2012, hope to complete in under 27 min.
