Last PB for Year 2014

Recorded a life time best of 51min3.5sec for a 10km run at the stadium today, 31 Dec 2014, Wednesday. It was 31.5sec faster than my previous best of 51min35sec in Jan 2014. I know I can do it as I had been running well lately, so I went running this evening pretty confident of a last pb for 2014. I felt relax today during the run, my stride was smooth and I could feel my body holding out well. Regretted not pushing myself a bit more during the later part of the run. I could have gone sub 51min for this last run of the year. I hope to continue to train hard and achieve better time in 2015 ! Happy New Year to all !

Short run on 27 and 28 Dec 2014

Did a short run of 3.6km at YCK stadium on Saturday evening, 27 Dec 2014, in a time of 18min20.3sec. Originally intended to try to run a 10km, but by the nine lap, it was raining quite heavily, so had to stop, do not wish to get sick. Did another short run of 5km at the stadium on 28 Dec 2014, Sunday evening. I wanted to run 10km but ended up running 5km in exactly 25min. Felt ok during the run, but I do not think I could have maintain the 5min per km pace if I try to run 10km.

15.07 km at East Coast Park on 25 Dec 2014

Did a mid-range run of 15.07km on Christmas Day in a time of 1hour30min52sec. Felt good during the run, just that that the 1st 10 km was ran quite slowly. Could have run much faster, I am now more aware of how my body will react during the later park of a long run. I guess by running more long distance training run, you unconsciously get better at reading how your body react and is able to run more efficiently.

19.4 km run at East Coast Park on 13 Dec 2014

Continue with training after Standard Chartered Singapore marathon, ran 19.4 km at the East Coast Park this morning in 2hr4min45sec. Started the run at 5.08am, started slow 6:33 per km pace for the 1st km, got slower for the 2nd km at 6:40.Kept hovering around the range of 6:46 to 6:59 till the 12km, hit the 10km mark at 68:02. From the 13km onwards, the pace got faster, 13km was reached in 6:31, then followed by 6:26, 6:20, 6:01, 6:09. After leaving behind my buddy at 17km, I covered the next km in 5:03 followed by 4:55 and the last 0.4km in 1:48. I was quite confident of my physical fitness, just coming off the SCB marathon.

A New PB for SCB Singapore Marathon 7 Dec 2014

I woke up at 2.45am, in fact I did not even sleep for more than an hour. Had some bread and a cup of coffee and drink a cup of water as well. After washing up and changed, left the house at about 3.40 am. I slow jogged about 1km to the MRT station to take a train to the start point, special train service to town was available from about 3am. Reached the start point at about 4.23am and had to wait about 40 minutes for the race to begin. While waiting for the race to start, I felt very relax and calm although I did not put in the sufficient training needed. I just wanted to try my best to complete the run and I was quite confident that I could set a new personal best. The race finally started at 5.04 am, it took me about 3.5 minutes to pass the start point. As usual, the first km is always slow, with everyone trying to find a way out of the crowd. After the 2km mark, the crowd seemed to be spread out more and there was more room to run, from here on the run was smooth. The first 5km w

SCB Singapore Marathon Race Day

Another one hour 48min before the race start, did not sleep much at all and getting ready to leave for the race. Bought my Garmin 620 last night, seven and a half hours before the run. Wish all runners all the best in the run, relax and enjoy the run !

Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 7 Dec 2014

The annual SCB Marathon Singapore will take place this Sunday, 7 Dec 2014. The route is the same as last year, it will start in front of the Mandarin Hotel, Orchard Road, the heart of the downtown shopping district. Start time is 5am, it will take runners down to the Raffles, Shenton way financial district, then past the Marina Bay Area, to the sports hub, then to the East Coast Park and back to the Garden by the Bay and finish at the field at Pandan, City Hall. I have not train as much as I would like to, but nevertheless, still looking forward to the run. I think it's the atmosphere of the race that excite all the runners ! I am aiming for anywhere between 4.30 to 5:00 hr, perseverance will play a big part in my run, physically just not strong enough to go faster. Wishing all runners a good run this Sunday, relax and enjoy the race !

18.02 km run on 18 Nov 2014 Tuesday

It rained all day on Tuesday, till about late in the afternoon when the sun finally emerged from behind the cloud. Decided to go for a run at Bishan Park at about 5:20 pm, had no concrete target in mind, just hoping to run around 12-15km. Started slow from home to the park which is about 2.5 km away, the loop at the park is about 3.3 km. Just run easy at about 6:15 - 6:20 pace for about 4-5km, after which the pace picked up and I ran mostly below 6 min pace for the rest of the way. Not a very smooth run, as I could feel a little strain in the thigh and calf muscle. Stride felt ok, but just not as smooth and effortless as I hope for. But, after Sunday's 30km run, I feel much more confident of completing long run I set out to do, as I know that I can complete these comfortably if I run at the correct pace. In the end, I covered 18.02 km in 1hr50min1ssec, averaging 6:06 per km.

30.68 km run on 16 Nov 2014 Sunday

At last, managed to clock a 30.68 km run this morning with the help of my running buddy at East Coast park. Started out at 5:08am, it was a slow run for the first 19.43km, averaging approximately 7min per km.  We just take it easy and at a very controlled pace. Started at Ford road car park and turned back only at the NSRCC back to the start point, 19.43 km in 2:15:55. The aim is to run at a relax pace and clocked in the mileage, which we achieved. From the 20km onwards, managed to maintain a pace of below 6min per km till the end of the run. I was quite sceptical of whether I would be able to maintain a constant pace initially, but as I passed from 20 to 21 to 22 to 23 km, my legs and body seems to holdup well. From there, I felt comfortable running at an average pace of about 5:45 per km, I was able to even increase my pace slightly over the rest of run, achieving a peak of 5:36 per km. Today's run seems to indicate that my overall fitness has improved quite a bit, and I can

11.6 km run on 12 Nov 2014 Wednesday

Wet weather again today, run at the gym for 1hr covering 11.6km. I have to continue to work on reducing my body weight to about 60-61 kg in order to run more efficiently. Have to also work on my core muscle group to ensure I can continue to run well after 30km, this is where I am lacking right now.

20.05 km run on 10 Nov 2014 Monday

The weather has been rather wet due to rain these last few days, so had to do some of my running in the gym. Yesterday evening was cool after the rain had stopped, went for a 20km run to a park and back, in 2 hour 3min 19sec, averaging 6:09 per km. Started out at about 6pm, was feeling rather lethargic for the first 4-5 km, but managed to get a good  rhythm once I entered the running path at the park. Just to relax and run easy between 5.30 to 5.50 per km pace. I was not able to sustain it for long but just tried my best not to let the pace drop too much from the 6min per km. I just push on despite the feeling of tiredness creeping in and keep my momentum. I know if slow down too much, the flow will be gone. I just let the momentum carried me through as I covered more ground. I think this is a good strategy, although my fitness level is still far from ideal, as I managed to complete the 20 km run in just over 2 hours. Today, one thing to note is that I did consumed 2 gels with 2 s

Thoughts on the Movie "Interstellar"

The movie is nice, and it reflects on human weaknesses. Human are very much emotional creature and are selfish, they usually regards their personal priorities as the most important even in the face of their own impending extinction. Children are not rational and adults are not much better. Space exploration is below our current technological capability, its just like deep ocean exploration. We are so too vulnerable in the harsh environment of deep ocean and space, perhaps we need to be able to explore the deep seas before we venture to space. We need the hardware to ensure we are protected in space, spaceship tough enough to withstand any foreign object that will strike our spaceship, we need a big enough spaceship large enough to carry enough food and fuel to bring us to our destination. Also better equipment to help with detection, be sure of where we are going and navigational equipment to bring us back. If you look at our current technological level, we will need many more yea

New Movie "Interstellar"

Another space movie "Interstellar" premier yesterday 6 Nov 2014 Thursday. I like to watch such movie especially when there are many high-tech or advance spacecraft in it. But travelling to  another habitable galaxy is out of our reach at the moment. We even have problem just getting into low earth orbit after 57 plus year of experiences, what a apathetic state of technology. Our species have not reach a level whereby we are really intellectually advance enough and stop playing to our innate feelings, especially those which are selfish and are capable of wiping out every species on earth including ourselves. I think we should be happy to stop blowing ourselves up when attempting to travel to space in the next 10-15 years. Even travelling to Mars is out of question in the next 15 years, with current commitment level. The moon, maybe !

10.13km run on 3 Nov 2014 Monday

Took a new route today, ended up running at a park during evening time. (Bishan Park) Covered 10.13 km in 1hr 0min 28sec, intended to run slow but ended up increasing my pace to 4:56 per km at the last km. The last 5 km was all under 6 min per km, felt fine and relax most of the time. I believe I could have run further, but will need some gel but did not bring any during this run. Have been running quite often lately but I still weigh around 65kg, need to reduce my weight to run more efficiently.

21.07 km run on 1 Nov 2014 Saturday

Did a 21.07 km run today in 2hr19min8sec, 6:36 per km today. A slow run but good for stocking up on mileage, in preparation for the SCB marathon on 7 Dec 2014. I did run faster from the 16-20km, clocked 5:01, 5:25, 5:35 and 5:08 for each of the respective km. Need to build up my core muscle to survive the later stages of the marathon, especially the last 10km.

Few good running venue in Singapore

Singapore National Parks Board has done a great job building up all the park connectors in Singapore. Hopefully, in the next phase of upgrading the park connectors, the pathway could be built of bitumen instead of concrete pathway. I just ran through the connector from Lentor Ave to Upper Thomson Road, which is very nice but it was solid concrete. The only place that one can truly run without crossing a road is East Coast Park (ECP), the only traffic light that you need to cross (starting from Ford Road) is the one at the Tanah Merah Coast Road before you hit Changi Coastal Road. Other than ECP, the rest are just too short in distance and too many traffic disruptions along the way.

14.1 km run on 28 Oct 2014 Tuesday

Only 38 days left to the Standard Chartered Marathon 2014 on 7 Dec 2014 Sunday. Trying hard to clock as many km as possible before race date, although I am not going to clock a very fast time. My aim is to go below 5 hours and hopefully break my pb of 4hr57min52sec. Just did a 14.1km run last evening in 1hr25min6sec, I felt that it was a good run for me. My thought for the run was to clock at least more than 10km, which I did achieved. I was trying to run a comfortable pace and maintain it throughout the run, which I managed to maintain as well. But, I think I need to start my run earlier so that I can cover more distance, running at night always seems like a rush for me, I want to be able to see daylight and run comfortably. I average 6:02 per km for this run and I find that this is a comfortable pace for me now, so I hope to duplicate this feeling for my next run but cover at least 18-20 km.

20.5km run on 26 Oct 2014 Sunday

Did a 20.5 km run on Sunday with a friend, but not my usual training route. There were numerous uphills and downhills and we covered the distance in about 2hr 50min. Although a very slow run, it helps to train the muscle groups which normally do not get much strain.

10.14 km run on 19 Oct 2014 Sunday

Covered 10.14 km in 1hr00min21sec earlier this evening, averaging 5:58 per km. Slow easy run today, no stress, just run at a comfortable pace.

17.21 km run on 18 Oct 2014 Saturday

Started my run this morning at about 8.05am, a little late though. Standard Chartered Marathon is less 50 days away, so I must at least do a long way every week till race day. My target today is to put in at least a 100 min of running, I covered 17.21 km in 1hr49min11sec. Ideally, I should be running at least 20km in about 2 hours, but I fall short today. I just want to run with a relax mind today and covered some distance. I managed to do just what I wanted to and hopefully I can do a few more long runs in the coming few weeks. I want to try to at least do one 30km run before the actual race on the 7 Dec 2014 Sunday.

6.4km run on 15 Oct 2014 Wednesday

Did a short run of 6.4km around where I live, it's a loop course of 1.6km per lap and I covered 4 laps in 41min10.461sec. I always run slower at night due to my poor night vision. Just tried to run in a relax mode today, trying to enjoy the run. Singapore is a very humid place, I am drenched through when I completed the run, even at such a slow pace.

4km run on 14 Oct 2014 Tuesday

Did a short 4km run at the stadium this evening, covered the distance in 20min25.935sec. This was a slow run and I felt fine all the way, did not push myself much as I did not have any set target today. Good flow today, should have push myself more to see what I can achieve.

10km run on 13 Oct 2014 Monday

Went for a early evening run at the stadium at 5.33pm. Completed 25 laps or 10km in 51min49.503sec, averaging 2:04.38012 per lap and 5:10.9503 per km. Started the run at about 2min per lap and went through 2km in 10:05. Although I am not exactly in good physical condition, I can still push my body a little here and there. I got a good rhythm  today and I was trying hard to try to beat my pb of 51:35. At about the 6km, start to have abit of a running nose, but otherwise still going well. But at about the 8km mark, start to slow to 2:10 per lap. I tried hard to speed up but only managed 2:08 for lap 23, and went through the 24 lap in 2:01.624. Put in a final bust for the last lap and managed a 1:40, last km was covered in 4:44. Could have clocked a faster time and a slim chance of a pb if I have push a little harder from the 8-9 km, but a good run overall. I had a good feel of how my body react when the going gets tough and how to keep pushing through the rough patch.

Chicago Marathon 12 Oct 2014 Results

Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya crossed the line in 2hr4min11sec, 6 seconds off his personal best. Rita Jeptoo also from Kenya won the women race in 2hr24min35sec. Singapore Ashley Liew finished in 2hr35min39sec, if this is indeed official, he improved his personal best by 1 sec. Congratulations to Ashley !

Chicago Marathon 2014 -20km 58min58sec

The lead group went through 20km in 58min 58sec.

Chicago Marathon 2014 - 15km Time

The Chicago Marathon, 12 Oct 2014 Sunday, the lead runner passed 15km mark in 44min13sec.

How come Earthlings are not pushing the limit of Space ?

The international space station is out there now, but nothing new seems to be happening these days ! I  guess we have more things happening on the ground! Why no one testing a new spacecraft with a human in it and go further from Earth?

2.4km run on 10 Oct 2014 Friday

Did a short run, 6 laps or 2.4km at the stadium yesterday, clocked a time of 11min31.854sec. I begin to wonder how fast can I really run at my peak condition ? Anyway, I think discipline is very important if I want to achieve a good timing for any of my run.

4.4km run on 9 Oct 2014 Thursday

Completed a 4.4km run, 11 laps at the stadium today, in 22min58.029sec. This is a really a slow pace for anyone who is serious about running. I wonder how runners can run at 12 km per hour for the full length of a marathon, which translate into a 3hr31min run. I must really try to keep my body in the low 60kg to improve my running time. (I am only 168cm tall)

3.2km run on 8 Oct 2014

Did a short run of 8 laps at the stadium today, 3.2km in 16min2.964sec. Lap time: 2:08.039, 2:05.740,  2:01.471, 2:00.854, 2:00.599, 2:01.451, 1:59.754, 1:45.056. No particular target in mind, so just run to loosen up my legs which was aching after yesterday's run.

14.02 km run on 7 Oct 2014 Tuesday

Completed a 14.02 km run on 7 Oct 2014 Tuesday, in 1hr 24min 59sec, averaging 6:04 per km. A trashy first 6km in 38min 27sec and a not too bad run for the last 8km. Did a further 4-4.5 km during the return leg of the run, but its just too slow.

Men Marathon results Asian Games 2014

Mahboob Ali Hasan from Bahrain came in 1st in 2hr12min38sec just a few minutes ago, Kohei Matsumura from Japan came in 2nd, one sec behind in 2hr12min39sec and Yuki Kawauchi, also from Japan, came in 3rd in 2hr12min42sec. It was a very close run, the 1st 3 runners finishing within a space of 4 seconds in a 42.195km run. Another impressive run from Yuki Kawauchi, an amateur runner with a regular job as a civil servant in a Japanese school.

19.48 km run on 2 Oct 2014 Thursday

This is my first run after 2 weeks in Europe, significant drop in my fitness level. I covered 19.48 km in 2hr 4min 36sec, without any water intake, same route as my 12 Sep 2014 Run. For the 1st 10km, my body was feeling fine but somehow I already felt that it will not be a smooth run. Nevertheless, tried my best to push on but my pace began to drop after 12 km from 6:03 to 6:11, 6:18, 7:03. My pace dropped further from 7:03 (15km) to 8:24, then 8:39, but managed to speed up to 7:38 then 6:59 for the 19th km. I guessed it could be due to not eating a proper meal before the run, I had only some biscuits. So its important to watch what we eat as well to do well for a run.

Perserverance in running

Perseverance is very important in running. If you push hard even during your lowest moment in running, you will emerge stronger physically and mentally. You must also watch your physical condition, this is where discipline comes in. You need to ensure you do not overeat, over indulge in unnecessary food, unhealthy food intake, so that you are in optimum physical condition. Lastly, you need to rest well, so that your body is ready to take on the next hard run. This is normally easier said then done.

2 Weeks in Italy

I was amazed and impressed by the architecture in Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan. Wonder how the people few hundred years ago were able to build such elaborate structure.

Lufthansa flight

Took a Lufthansa flight from Singapore to Frankfurt on transit to Rome, an Airbus A380 on 14 Sep 2014 Sunday. (11.34pm) Everything was smooth and the inflight entertainment system was good although not a wide selection of movie. The flight attendant was polite and provide good service. The landing was excellent and only took a very short time to come to a stop. The flight to Rome, Italy was equally good and took about 1hr 20min. The Roman architectural sight is impressive and it's a worthwhile experience indeed. The City is full of historical buildings and it's a wonderful display of excellent conservation and sustainable city administration.

Riding on momentum during a long run

During my last long run on the 12 Sep 2014, Friday, I was rather doubtful if I would be able to maintain a sub 6min per km pace due to my lack of serious training. I did succeed in completing my 21.25km run averaging 5:55 per km. I did it by riding on my momentum during the run, I just maintained the 5:50 plus per km pace and not let the pace drop. At the same time, I was watching my breathing and how my body feels during the run. I found that legs and breathing was fine and no muscle clamp, so I just push on. Happy that I managed to finished the run as I set out with not much hope of a good time and did 2hr 5min37sec. A good lesson learnt on how to manage my run and even without water intake at all.

21.25 km run on 12 Sep 2014 Friday

Managed to finally covered more than 20 km today, covered 21.25km in 2hr5min37sec, averaging 5:55 per km. Took a new route today, the first 5.6km was ran along pathway by the side of the road, but once I entered the park area at Buangkok green, it was smooth all the way. My pace increase to 5:55, even managed to hit 5:37. Felt fine most of the time, but felt rather apprehensive and doubtful of my fitness level, might be also because I ran without water all the way. But after the run, don't feel too well after taking water and a can of isotonic drink. Overall, a good run today.

Bringing down your PR in running

Why need to bring down your PR in running ? Unless you are running purely for health reason or as a stress release tool, all runners want to get faster. Its basically a fight against time, versus distance covered. Its also a comparison against other runners, if your running partners can run a faster time than you despite having a little more bulk than you, why can't you beat them. I guess it is this competitive spirit that bring out the real runner in you, always looking forward to a new PR. You will only know how fast is a 6 minutes mile when you can actually run that fast, I can assure you its pretty fast for casual runner!

Retirement Needs - do something

There is only so much we can do about having enough to spend when we retired from our jobs. Rather then worrying and waiting for someone to help you, be proactive and start spending on things that is totally essential and not on anything you fancy. People who just worry and do nothing about it, is just wasting time. Spend time on reading up on anything that will bring you closer to your goal and not just complaining!

8.2km run on 10 Sep 2014 Wednesday

Did 8.2km run today in 48min6.8sec, averaging 5:52 per km. Not a bad run for me, but I need to start my run earlier as my night vision is not too good. The run become erratic once you are not sure what or where you stepping on. Need to be more patience as well, tend to rush my run.

The Movie "Lucy" and after thoughts

Watched the show "Lucy" on Sunday 7 Sep 2014, its a movie about the abilities that human will acquire as we uses more of our brain capacity and utilises it optimally. There has always been a myth out there that human only uses up to 10% of our brain capacity, even among the academics. I would say how we define capacity or how many percentage depends on what base one uses to derive the percentage. Furthermore, I would say even the real expert do not exactly know how our complicated brain works at our current knowledge level. Human tends to overestimate our own abilities, human still have along way to go to understanding our own physical self. One very simple example would be how to get people to stop killing each other ? We spent so much resources just to guard against our own kind and to kill each other. Way to go for human to become an advance race !

10.11km run on 9 Sep 2014 Tuesday

Did a 10.11 km run today, 9 Sep 2014 Tuesday, in 59min1.6sec, averaging 5:50 per km. Felt good today while running, strides were smooth and easy. Hope I can replicate the same effort on Wednesday.

16.41km run on 4 Sep 2014 Thursday

Started from Yio Chu Kang/Lentor Ave junction via Lentor Ave, turned right to Yishun Ave 1 and across the causeway at the Seletar reservoir, about 8km and back. Completed the 16.41km in 1hr42min26sec, averaging about 6:15 per km. I considered this a good run as I targeted to keep close to 6min per km, although I am not that close to 6min per km, I did run well without slowing down too much. On the downside, I have been getting a niggling pain in my upper right tight bone area, after the last two run of more than 16km. I am wondering if its due to my light running shoes, will find out in my next run of a similar distance. Need to really work on my core muscle group and also my nutrition needs as well, have not been fuelling my body enough before long run.

10.2km run on 2 Sep 2014 Tuseday

Did a 10.2km run on 2 Sep 2014, Tuesday in 1hr1min45sec. Tried to run as easy and relax as possible for the 1st 2-3km to let my body warm up. My aim was to stick close to 6min per km, breakdown : 6:17, 6:13, 6:10, 6:20, 6:26, 6:27, 6:09, 5:47, 5:52, 5:05, 1:00. Looking at the splits, my run was not consistence, started slow, got slower and then fast, faster. The mind has to be strong and listen to what you want it to do, if its within your physical condition, your mind is able to push your body to carry out a constant and consistence performance but you have to be patience and not rush your pace or hold yourselves back too much. In other words, you have to stick to your game plan and see the benefits coming through slowly, as progress might not be immediately obvious.

Recent few runs in Aug 2014

Rested for 3 days after the last run of 16km on 22 Aug 2014. Did a 2.4km, 6 laps at the stadium in 11min22sec, no expectation, just an easy run on 26 Aug 2014, Tuseday. Did 12.5 laps, 5km at the stadium on 27 Aug 2014, Wed, in 25min1sec. Tried to get as close to 2min per 400m lap as possible, got a good feeling of what it's like to run at 12km per hour. I think my breathing was not too bad and my legs feel ok but just have to watch the energy requirement. On 28 Aug 2014 Thur, did 16laps, 6.4km at the stadium in 33min14.957sec. Have to be more patience and not rush in my run.

16km run on 22 Aug 2014 Friday

Took a different route on 22 Aug 2014, Friday, it's about 3.7km per lap near where I live. The route has a long slight downhill on one side and a steep uphill on another side of the route. I planned for it to be slow but some how I did run faster with each lap, completed the 16.03km run in 1 hour 47min 57sec. It's a slow run but overall a good run, I was able to relax and just run easy.

10km run on 17 Aug 2014 Sunday

Did another 10km run at the stadium yesterday evening, 25 laps, in 52min15sec. Although I did not improve on the run last Wednesday of 52min10sec, this was a easier run as I felt much better during the run. I felt my stride to be smoother and my breathing much more compose, should have tried to push myself a bit harder. I guessed it might be due to my lighter body weight due to more running for the week and slight improvement I core body strength due to more sit up and better stretching. Happy to see the slight improvement and hope to build on it.

10km run on 13 Aug 2014 Wednesday

Completed 25 laps, 10km at the stadium this evening, in a time of 52min10.021sec. Averaging 5:13 per km, per lap time is 2:05.2. Physically, not in the best of form and also felt weak around the 6km mark. It was a difficult run for me, I think my legs can carry through a good 51min run, but need to work on my nutrition need.

3km run on 11 August 2014 Monday

Did a 3 km run at the stadium in 14min24.276sec. Split for the 7.5laps : 2:00.010, 1:58.874, 1:55.856,   1:56.083, 1:58.377, 1:58.497, 1:49.658, 46.921. Averaging 4:48 per km, not fast but I will try to improve more in the coming days !

4km run on 10 Aug 2014 Sunday

Ran 4km at nearby stadium this evening, clocked 19min35.426sec, averaging 4:54 per km. Split as follow: 2:06.247, 2:00.939, 1:59.526, 1:58.438, 1:58.507, 1:58.270, 1:57.773, 1:58.538, 1:55.696, 1:40.492. Not a fast time, but I am making some progress. I am trying to test if I can maintain a per lap (400m) time of less than 2min and hold it for as many laps as possible.

Singapore - how to keep it clean?

People in Singapore just need to remember one very basic rule, "do not throw anything on the ground when you step out of your own house" ! If do not do throw litter on the floor at home, do not do this when you get out of your own house as well ! If everyone can learn this basic rule, we will really be a very clean city !

2.4km run on 8 Aug 2014 Friday

Just finished a 2.4km run, 6 laps at the nearby stadium about 25min ago. Clocked 11min26.797sec, split time: 1:58.251, 1:58.018,1:57.506, 1:58.246, 1:55.953, 1:38.823. Not fast at all, but some improvement. just need to keep pushing my body to do more. A very controlled run today, could have run faster, body feels good today.

Why so many conflicts on Earth ?

Why is there so many conflicts on our little planet Earth ? Human beings are supposed to be the most intelligent living being on this planet but we spend so much time and effort trying to kill each other. There is some differences in the way we look, skin colour and the way we carry out our daily life, but otherwise, we all need air, food, warm and a roof over our head to survive. We will be an advance living being, once we can stop being greedy and stop killing each other. Imagine the amount of money we can save from building weapons of destruction.

Short run of 2.4km on 7 August 2014 Thursday

Ran 6 laps at the stadium this morning, 2.4km in 12min26.551sec. Just so lazy but still need to put in effort to run whatever distance I can managed. Ran the laps in 2:20, 2:14, 2:09, 2:06, 2:00, 1:35. Went out late this morning, started run only at 8am, too late and the hot sun was blazing.

10km run on 5 August 2014 Tuesday

Completed 25laps at the stadium today, 10km in 53min13.588sec. Although not a fast time, I am quite happy with the run, as I was able to run faster towards the end. I can feel my breathing was getting quite difficult as I tried my best to run faster towards the last 3km but I discovered that my legs was actually ok to my surprise. I was running quite smoothly and could have run faster if my breathing could be improved.

12.09km run on 2 Aug 2014 Saturday

Covered 12.09km in 1hr13min, average about 6min2.28sec, still very slow. I think mileage is quite important for me, as my body is still not use to running long distances. Need to be more patience and clock more mileage.

17.22km run on 1 Aug 2014 Friday

Completed a slow long run of 17.22 km this morning in 1hr53min30sec, averaging 6:35 per km. The initial first few km was quite bad, felt very slow moving but did not dare to increase my speed. I wanted badly to do a long run today, so I just stick to a 6:30-6:45pace. I consumed a pack of gel before the run, as I sometimes felt weak without breakfast. Started to feel a little better after the 5km plus mark, seemed to have found my rhythm. I just tried my best to stick to this comfortable pace for as long as I can. Managed to covered 9.02km at the 1 hour mark, slow but not really bad. I want to make sure I cover at least 17km. At the 12.6plus km, I consumed another pack of gel and had a quick drink at one of the toilet at a small park along the route before resuming my run, took me about 33 secs. I managed to stick to a even pace till the end of the run. I started the run at about 7.25am, maybe I should start half an hour earlier for the next long run to avoid the heat from the morning

6km run on 29 July 2014 Tuesday

Completed 15laps at the stadium this morning in 33min3.935sec, a very slow and tough run. I do not know why I felt so heavy in the legs and it was really a struggle during the middle section of the run.

4km run on 26 July 2014, Saturday

Completed a short run of 4km in 19min41sec, felt ok after the run, but have to learn to run faster. Continue to work on my core muscle and to keep a optimum body weight.

7km run on 23 July 2014 Wednesday

Did a 7km run at the gym this evening in 38min flat. Have not run for the past 5 days.

13km run on 17 Jul 2014 Thursday

Completed the longest run for the month, 13km in 1hr20min40sec, average about 6:12 per km. Fastest km was 4:54 for the last km, slowest was 6:58 around the 7th km. A slow run but overall a good run, slowly increasing the distance.

5.6km run on 15 July 2014 Tuesday

Ran 14laps at the stadium this evening, clocked in at 29min51.348sec. Covered each lap averaging about 2:11 for the 1st 11 laps. Only ran faster after I decided to run only 14laps, covered the 12th lap in 2:09,13th lap in 2:03 and the 14th lap much faster in 1:33. I was very apprehensive and kept thinking that I might not finish my target of at least 14 laps if I run much faster. Actually, I would have clock a much faster time if I had ran each lap 1 sec faster.

10.02km today 14 July 2014 Monday

Completed a 10km run this evening in 57min 35sec. It was kind of difficult as I have not been running 10 km or more on the road for quite awhile. Average speed was 5:45 per km.

Human wasted too much unneccessary resources

Earth is like a giant spaceship with limited resources travelling around the sun due to the gravitational forces. As human evolves, they wasted too much resources, some due to human's own built in element, which they have not manage to understand and control. Human multiply too quickly as well but they do not know how to bring up the young in a proper way. Human are just too self centre and greedy, suspicious and tend to give in to evil thoughts which results in self destruction. They are not using their resources, knowledge, in the way which will ensure their survival with their limited resources. They are acquiring new knowledge and technology, but they do not use it in a proper way. They need to develop their intellectual ability in a more thoughtful way, rather than the selfish way which is exactly what is happening now.

5.6km run on 11 July 2014 Friday

Started my run at the stadium at 10.03 am, always start with ambitious goal. Wanted to run 2:04 for 25laps, but just after the 1st lap of 2:10, I know I am still  not in shape to achieve what I set out to do. 2nd lap was ran in 2:12, 3rd lap was a little faster at2:09.942. Feeling apprehensive, 4th lap covered in 2:12.699, 5th lap in 2:11.853, 6th lap in 2:12.740. I can see that I am not getting any faster with each lap. 7th lap was covered in 2:12.360, 8th lap in 2:11.527, I kept trying to go faster but 9th lap was only slightly faster at 2:10.915, 10th lap was covered in 2:11.991. The sun was in and out, but mentally, I kept thinking the heat will slow me down. The 11th lap was covered in 2:13.952, 12th lap in 2:11.549. I made my mind by the 13th lap to run just 1 more lap, so I got quicker for the 13th lap in 2:06.453 and the final lap was covered in 1:37.992. I think my mental state was so much affected by the sun and the heat, that I kept telling myself that I could not run much

Registered for Standard Chartered Marathon 7 Dec 2014

I registered for the SCB full marathon today, it will be on 7 Dec 2014 Sunday. I have about 5 months to put in some serious training, hope to at least achieve a PB of under 4hr 30min. Need to really put in some long slow run to build up my stamina. Have to do at least four 30km run 2 week before the actual race day. Will try my best to keep my body weight to 62kg or less, to achieve my PB.

11.2km run on 8 July 2014 Tuesday

Run at the gym this morning due to rain, covered 11.2km in 1hr2sec. This is a better run than yesterday, but must continue to cut down on excess body weight, in order to run faster.

Why manual labour pay less ?

There have always been a case where hard manual labour pay less than one that uses more of human intelligence !  Well, one reason is that people who uses physical power rather than the mind usually do not question the authority of those in charge ! The point is that they should be compensated fairly !

Singapore bad habits - littering!

People would have thought that Singapore is a very clean City, but the habits of the people are astonishing ! Even people living in privately managed property litter! There is this guy who live in my estate who just throw glowing cigarette butts out of his window every day ! I am thinking of ways to make him stop this incredible habits, as the condo management said they can only issue warning letters !

9km run at the gym 7 July 2014 Monday

Run at the gym due to rain, covered 9km in 49min6.525sec. Just realised that I weighed closed to 66kg for my 1.68m frame, it's just so difficult to cut down on the extra weight when you get older! Must not be lazy, need to move around more.

Short run at the stadium 6 July 2014 Sunday

The consolation for this run is that I ran the fastest 5.6km in 2014, 29min15.132sec. Other this little fact, nothing special, just a normal run. Eat too much during a late lunch of KFC fried chicken at 4plus, felt so full during the run. Should never do this again in future !

Short run today 4 July 2014

4 July 2014, US Independence Day Run at the stadium this morning 6.56am to 7.31am, completed 16 laps = 6.4km in 34min38.887sec. Started running early today, thinking I can probably break my 10km PB of 51min35sec, but my body is just weak, could not break out of the 2.10-2.12 range per 400m lap.

Visualisation to Reality

Many runners would have at many a time visualising themselves achieving time they are aiming for or think that they can run. "Standard Chartered Marathon 2014, time 3hour59min59sec" In fact what I just quoted this a time most fit individual can achieve if they put in sufficient training !

Short run on 27 Jun 2014 Friday

Did a very short run of 3.39km in 17min8sec on 27 Jun 2014, Friday night.

Runners Attribute

How fast is fast in distance running ? I do not know as i am a slow runner. To me, completing a 400m in 90 seconds or less is fast! First of all, to sustain a high running speed, the body has got to be very efficient, no extra  body weight but needs to be powered by a strong pair of legs. Just like a fighter jet, light body weight but powerful jet engine to propel it through the air. The only different is that the aircraft can be made to be strong and tough, but human body has to be feed with the right food and train to be strong. Some people are just born with that extra talent to run, so it does make a different. Runner will also need to know their body well and how it respond at each state of the run, like rationing the energy to last the whole race, after all we are not superhero with unlimited power source.

My target for Year 2014 - Running

I hope to break 50 min for the 10 km before 31 Dec 2014 and also to achieve a pb of at least below 4hr40min for the Dec 2014 Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon. Today, I did 26min19sec for 5 km enroute to my 6km run at the stadium. I hope I can break my pb of 23min15sec as well within the year. If I participate in the Newton Run this year, I hope to achieve a 3hr15min for the 32km.

6km run on 22 Jun 2014 Sunday

Completed 15 laps at the stadium, 6km in 31min10sec. I think I am improving, but fitness level still have not reach the level of 12km per hour for 10km. Need to continue to build up my core muscle group, so as to be able to sustain a higher speed. The weather today is very humid as well, I can feel my body temperature going up as I try to maintain a 11.5plus per km speed.

8km run on 21 Jun 2014 Saturday

Completed 20 laps this morning at the stadium 8km, in 43min28sec. Initially, I was ambitious and was planning to break my pb of 51min35sec for the 10km. I completed the 1st lap in 2min6sec, feeling good, not a sweat. 2nd lap 2min9sec, 3nd lap 2min10, I tried to speed up a little for the 4lap, 2min7, I was still positive that I can run a good time. 5th lap, 2min7, 6th lap, 2min7, 7th lap slip abit 2min9.5, 8th lap 2min10, the sun is up now and getting hot. 9th lap 2min12, 10th lap 2min9.8, 11th lap 2min11sec, I see the record attempt fading away. 12th lap 2min12.2, 13th lap 2min10.2, 14th lap 2min12.4. 15th lap 2min15.2, 16th 2min15.7, 17th lap 2min16.8, 18th lap 2min19.6, I just relax and run, as I knew I am not fit enough and the heat is just too much. 19th lap 2min17.7, decided at this point to just run 1 more lap, finished off the lap in 1min46.5. My fitness level is just bad, need to push myself more to overcome the mental barrier. Sometimes, we just need our brain to tell the bod

Running news are rarely reported in Singapore

With the Soccer World Cup ongoing, it's so obvious that the press favour one sport over others in Singapore. You see so much reported in the ST about soccer, page after page. Everyone know where we are in soccer, although so much has been spent on it. Sad to say, this has been the situation in the country for such a long time. I guess it's to cater to the general public interest, but running has been popular for the last couple of years, yet you rarely see much reported.

Short run on Sunday 15 Jun 2014

Managed to cover 5.07km in 29min7sec according to my Garmin watch. Felt like I was running fast but in fact was quite slow. Need to get fit again, improve my core muscle group, so that I can run faster. My immediate goal would be to run a good time for the 10km, must try to get close to 50min and achieve a pb. Have to keep pushing my body, just so lazy nowadays!

New 10000 m records for Soh Rui Yong

Incredible run Rui Yong, hope to see you keep taking down the records. At last we see some lights for  Singapore distance runners from you and Mok !

Short run on 14 Jun 2014 Saturday

Did a short run at the stadium nearby at about 7.20pm. Covered 4km, 10 laps in 19min39.859sec. Not  quite fast but already felt exhausted. Although my body is not fit in any sense, keep wanting to try to go faster. One thing I dislike about running at night at the stadium is that I kind of lose control during the run. Cannot seem to keep a proper pace and also not patience enough to keep the pace I plan to run. Initially plan to do a 10 km and was planning to have a crack at my pb of 51min35sec. Too bad, not today, have to try another day. 2min per 400m is not a extremely fast pace but if you are not fit enough, it's difficult to maintain.

Densely populated cities

Singapore is a very small country in terms of land area, approximately 722 square kilometres, with a population of about 5.3 mllion people. Most of its citizens live in high rise public apartments blocks built by the government agency named Housing Development Board. The land in Singapore is expensive and the apartments are expensive. Food and transport charges are reasonable, the system is efficient and getting around the island is easy. It's a young country and it takes time to develop the human resources, education need to be improved to train its population. Training people to think is a difficult task, human nature tend not to be rational when distracted. Too many distraction in our so called high tech world, people get so attracted to these things which waste a great deal of our limited time in this world.

Lesson learnt from Sundown Marathon

I tried my best to keep pushing my body to go beyond its limit, which I find interesting and challenging. I did minimum training, so my body suffered quite badly during the later part of the run. But what I found surprising was that when I put in a short burst for a short stretch of say 200-300m, I actually find it easier then to slow jog. I kept doing so from about 27km onwards until the end of the run. I would say I put in at least 75 percent effort for this run, next time I must try to at least put in 90 percent effort. Overcoming the most difficult part of the race when you body is giving up, is also the most satisfying. I need to push my body more to cut down the time wasted walking, could cut my timing further.

Finished Sundown Marathon 1 Jun 2014 Sunday

Finished Sundown Marathon on 1 Jun 2014 Sunday just before 5am, in a clock time of 5hr24min53sec. (official time:5hr16min53sec) I started in the 2nd wave which had a delay of at least 5min after the first wave. My Garmin stopped recording at 41.68km at 5hr8min plus to a flat battery, fried the battery due to charging directly via the wall socket. I had to pull my best effort to achieve this timing, due to my minimum training. It was really a torturing journey when your body has already given up and you have to rely on your mind to tell body to go on. But it was a great experience, especially running in the rain, indeed I run better during the 5km stretch. I could feel my core muscle feeling really sore, have to really build up my core. I tried out a new method for myself during this race, I run fast after each walk break, as I really cannot bring myself to slow jog when the body is really sore. It seems to work for me, as my timing was ok despite minimum training.

Personal value

A person's value is shaped by teachings from young and it is very influential to this person till he grow up to be an adult. If someone is very selfish and never give a thoughts to others, it will be reflected in their teaching to their children or student. Instilling a value by example is a very powerful tool, never abuse it. Private enterprise nowadays are profit driven, sometimes lacking social awareness and responsibility in their actions. Things that are not healthy to the body and mind should not be promoted to the public, as even matured adults cannot think rationally most of the time. When indulgence prevails, not even the very rational mind can defend it!

Sundown Marathon 31 May 2014 Saturday

I am taking part in this marathon this Sunday, hoping to run a fulfilling race. My timing is definitely not going to be fast, but I want to make a good race for myself. If I am able to not slack too much in the entire race, I would be happy. I am going to try not to walk continuously for more than 3 minutes at any point during the race. I believe I can go under 5 hours for this race if I really push myself hard enough. Use the 5 hours to think about what I can do in life, need to find an alternative to make a living.

13.09km run on 24 May 2014, Saturday

Completed a 13.09km run in 1hr22min34sec this morning. It's  a good run by my standard, but I think it's too rush and I started too late as well. My average pace is 6:18 per km. The weather was hot and it  make me perspire a lot. Need to start to buildup my stamina to endure long run.

What it takes to run well ?

I think the main factor would be you actually like to run and has the desire to want to run faster. There is also the need to have a high level of tolerance to take on suffering of pain and extreme tiredness of the body. The mind has got to be extremely strong to be able to push on regardless of what happen. Finally, the desire to challenge the human limits will determine if you keep improving with each run.

Sundown Marathon on 31 May 2014 Saturday

I will be running the full 42.195 on 31 May, Saturday with very little training. My longest run since 2 Mar was 14.14 km. I am going to run easy but try to cover as much distance as possible while my body can take it in the first half of the run and then just run as much as possible for the rest of the race. I am hoping to cover at least 35km by the 4 hour mark and then cover the last 7km in the last hour, similar to what I did at the 2XU run on 2 Mar 2014. I need to push myself more, I think I am capable of going below 5 hous. Looking forward to the run!

Can oil be manufactured artificially ?

We know what constitute oil chemically, theoretically we should be able to duplicate the process. But seems like it's not as simple as we think. I still strongly believe that one day we should be able to create a efficient fuel similar to oil. Human spent too much time and money on other area that is not meaningful. I think effort will only be put to producing our substitute fuel when oil is really running out!

A Peaceful World

Will there be a real peaceful World one fine day ? If people are willing to be less greedy, to be contended, to be honest, to be forgiving....... All these are hard to achieve as human are engineered with these behaviours. I think to be contended with what ones have is very important, do not try to be complicated.

Run on 11 May 2014 Sunday

Did a 10.64km run today 11 May, in 1hr3min56sec. Felt tired today, wanted to equal yesterday's distance of 14km but did not manage to achieve my target. My average pace today is 6:01 per km, not   fast but still a struggle for me.

Interesting reading material

I guess different people have different things they like to read, but what will be things that attract people to read on ? I guess it will be things that can capture ones imagination  or their curiosity !

14km run on 10 May 2014 Saturday

Completed my longest run of 14.14km since the 2XU marathon on 2 Mar 2014, in 1hr27min12sec. Average pace 6min10sec, wanted to run further but ut was too hot for me. Not exactly a bad run, but just have to run longer distance. Have to keep going further before Sundown Marathon on 31 May, not much time left.

Why running is enjoyable ?

Running can be extremely boring and challenging as well. The boring part is when you have nothing to focus on when running. I think the thing to do is to find ways to overcome the difficulties you encounter during the run. If you are feeling tired and have no energy to push on, try to relax and push your body, you need to tell your body to carry on and the difficulties that it encounter. Many runners know that you will not always be able to run as fast or as smooth as you like to. But each run will help you to run better in the next run.

Recent few runs

Been struggling trying to run further recently, generally fitness level is down. Did a 9.67km night run in 1hr 2min plus on 1 May. Ran 11.3plus km in the gym in exactly 1 hour on the 3 May and ran 8.17km in 51min 4sec on 4 May 2014. Hav to up my mileage fast, otherwise Sundown Marathon on 31 May 2014 would be hell for me.

A Five Hour Marathon

Runners will know that a 7 minute pace km is not particularly fast at all, but to do it 42 times non stop is not easy at all. Anyone who can run at this pace will finish a marathon in 4hr55min21.9sec. There should be a couple of thousands people in Singapore who can accomplish such a run.

Sundown Marathon 2014

The Sundown Marathon is taking place on 31 May 2014. Saturday, 11.30pm. I am going to try to finish it in under 5 hour.

US to increase interest rate ?

Wonder how the US debt going to be paid off if the rate is raised. It's not decreasing even with the extreme low rate now, I guess create more money then.

Is it possible to collect all the trash in orbit ?

Would it be possible to use a spacecraft to fly at the same speed as the trash in orbit and safely collect it in a huge bag or net and send it back to Earth or push it out to a much further orbit ? Or perhaps reuse it to make a new space station. I think it can done but not at our current level of technology.

Kenenisa Berkele debut marathon in Paris

The world record holders for couple of shorter distances made his mark in Paris with a 2hours 5min 4sec run. He has no experience in the event and make it feel like a walk in the Park. Impressive run !

Latest run of 10.6km on 29 Mar 2014 Saturday

Did a 10.6km run on 29 Mar 2014, Saturday in 1 hour 4min 59sec. I have not been running much lately, very apprehensive of how far and fast I can run. I started the run late at about 8.45am, the weather was hot, it bother me quite badly, perspire too much to keep the body cool.

My next step to running faster

I think my training plan lack run at faster pace for a prolong period of time. I need to get out there and run 25km at pace faster than 6min per km. I am always apprehensive of running faster as I am afraid I cannot finish my target distance. I will have to try running faster this weekend, I am quite annoy that I have not been improving my running time much at all. But one consolation, after running the 2XU marathon is that I get more confident now, as I seems to like the process of pushing the body and mind beyond my perceive limit. I want to try pushing myself more and see improvement along the way.

6 km run on 16 Mar 2014 Sunday

It has been raining all day, did a 6km run at the gym in 29min32sec. I consider this good run for me as I am in bad shape.

10.23km run on 15 Mar 2014 Saturday

Did a afternoon run at 2.30pm, 10.23km in 1hr1min40sec. The heat really was just too much, had to put in a lot of effort to fight the heat and kept telling myself not to stop.

Target for the 7 Dec 2014 Standard Chartered Marathon

My aim is to do a sub 4 hour marathon on 7 Dec 2014, Sunday in Singapore. Will need to do a minimum of five 35km run 1 week before race day. Need to keep my weight to 61kg to be efficient in my running. Will have to be really descipline to achieve my target time. I am hoping to do the Army half marathon in about 1hr 45min.

There must be another world

There must be another world out there, or else Human would be the most intelligent being in the whole Universe. If there is a creator, surely something better can be created. Human are just so primitive, it will takes time for them to evolve further!

Greed and ambition hinder technological progress

Greed make people make use of technology to make money and limit it's use. Ambition make people make use of technology to do bad things or to create warfare. All men are born good but they learn to do bad things when they grow up. As all human are born with different capability, perhaps the more capable should help the less capable. People should be taught to not depend on material goods too much. Life can still be as meaningful without material goods !

Funding Space Exploration

The money the world spent on military could fund for space exploration, part of it would be sufficient. Imagine the progress we could have made since 1969 ! A human could have reached Mars and returned with the invaluable experience and along with all the hardware for deep space exploration. The day will come when you can hire a taxi to a destination near earth on daily basis !

2XU Marathon Singapore 2014

Completed the 42.195 km run in 5 hr 19min 5sec. The run started at 4am, I think probably 2000 runners took part. I did not plan to run this race, but an opportunity came around quite near the race. Run normally for the 1st 10km, clocked 1hr3min plus,  maintained a good pace, reached 21 km in 2hr12min. My body became cracked up a little as usual after 23km, reached 30km in 3hr 22min. Cleared Ford road just after 4hours, reached 35 km in 4hr2min plus. But after this walked almost all the way till the end. Quite a good run till the 35km, but was a hell of run from there till the end.

Standard Chartered Marathon Hong Kong 16 Feb 2014

Although the winning time is about the same as the Singapore edition back in Dec 2013, there are about 100 runners under sub 3 hours. About 80 plus of these are local Hong Kong runners, the race was of a higher quality. The weather is much cooler but also tougher, many hills to tackle. I was quite interested to participate next year after reading through the results. But one thing to note is that the morning temperature can be really low like 1-4 degree celious, need to keep warm at the start.

Records will be broken all the time

Records for running events will always be broken, especially for longer events. So keep going, each of us can get faster if you are determine enough! We will see a 2 hours marathon within the next 20 years, although it's mind blogging, it can be done !

Learning from a bad run

Running a bad race can be quite a good experience, it makes you realise things can go wrong anytime and most importantly to take note of your weaknesses. For myself , I run too little distance and I have weak core area. I have been telling myself to build up my core muscle group but I never really put in much effort to actually do it. From my experience during my 21 km run on the 15 Feb 2014, I wanted to run faster the last 3km but though I kept telling myself to push on, my body was so exhausted. It was a really a battle of the mind over body, but my mind looses the fight. The little consolation is that  I learn how to keep telling mind to take action his time round. Previously, I would have just stop running and just walk. I think as long as you learn something out of the lousy run, it's still a good run in the sense that you learned your lesson.

21 km run on 15 Feb 2014 Saturday

Did a short run of 5km in the morning of 15 Feb 2014, Saturday. I took part in a night race that started at 7:30pm, 21km but I was late 15min. I started the run at about 7:45pm, the start line was quite empty as the rest if runners started 15min before me. I started quite fast 5:08 for the 1st km and 5:09 for the 2nd km. I was feeling quite good but slow to a 5:32 for the 3rd km, from here I was never     any faster. My pace for the next 6km was 5:40 to 5:55 pace. Although I was still feeling ok, I start to doubt myself as I have not run for 2 weeks. Slow to a 6:54 by 18km, and then I just felt drained and slow to 8 min plus pace for the next 2km. I ran the last km in 7:23, final finishing time 2 hr15min38sec.

18.11km run on 1 Feb 2014 Saturday

Started my run at 5.44 pm from YCK/Lentor Ave via Lentor Ave then Yishun Ave 1 then across the Causeway to the Seletar Aerospace Park till the end of the incomplete road. Total distance 18.11 km in 1hour51min45sec. The 1st few km was difficult, very slow but it got better as I cover more distance. The best section was after 12 km, I can find the run getting better, my stride got smoother. I can feel I am pushing body and it's a good feeling.

10.17 km run on 31 Jan 2014 Thursday

Covered 10.17km in 59min52.9sec at night, finished the run 25min ago. Felt like I was running fast but the time is slow, about just under 6min per km pace. This is the thing I dislike about running in poorly lit surrounding, it kind of gave me the illusion that I am running fast.

22 km run on 12 Jan 2014 Sunday

Completed my 1st run at ECP in 2014 this morning! 22km in 2hr 10min 36 sec, average 5min56.18sec per km. This is not a fast time, but a good run for me. I knew that I can run a faster first 10km and then hold on to the second half. Finished the 1st 11km in 1hr3min36sec and the second half in 1hr7min. I felt good for the 1st 12km and then try to relax and run easy. Finished 15km in 1hr28min, there is this guy who was tailing me and I run well for the next 4km till the 19km. I was feeling my body temperature going up, had to take a quick break to drink water and poured water over my head to cool down. I continue with the run and try my best to maintain a 6min pace. Try to finish the last km at a quicker pace, but my body was not responding well and I eventually finished the last 1 km in 5:45. Overall a good run, but just need to know my body better, learn to pace well and push harder the next run. If I do not push myself enough, I know I always look back with regrets! Just want to make

17 km run on 11 Jan 2014 Saturday

Wanted to try to beat my pb for the 10km at the stadium, but it was closed for 3months for maintenance work. So I run from the YCK police station via Lentor,Yishun Ave 1, till the end across the causeway turn right till the end of the pathway and back to Lentor/YCK road. Total distance 17.25km in 1hour41min47sec. Started out slow, legs were feeling heavy till after 4km. Felt better, so tried to increase pace a little. After turning around at the end of the pathway at the Seletar Aerospace park, tried to relax and up my pace a little. All was well till the last 3km, the weather was really hot, just tried my best not to slow down too much. It's kind of like a shake out run, have not run more than 10km since 1 Dec 2013.

20 sub 3 hours Singapore runners at the SCB Marathon ?

Just wondering when will day comes when we see the top 20 runners at the SCB Marathon all finishes in less than 3 hours ! That will be an achievement for Singapore runners !

Are we going to run out of oil in the next 20 years ?

Recently, I picked up a book titled "Half Gone" by author Jeremy Leggett. It's a book about the world running out of oil in the next 20 to 30 years based on estimated oil reserve of our planet. I feel that this is indeed a very serious topic, which will really affect of us on Earth as we are so dependent on oil as a fuel. There will be no air travel if you think about it, other land based transportation will probably be available. It will definitely adversely affect all of us ! It will be like going back to pre-oil days or 200 years back !

First Run in the new year of 2014

Completed my first run this morning, 4 Jan 2014, Saturday. 25 laps of 400m, total 10km in 51min35.828sec. I think I almost PB, not too sure as it was long time ago, almost 20 odd years back in the early 90s or before. Well I cannot really ask for more, as my training mostly are not consistent. This is about 58sec faster than what I did last Saturday. But it's really important to feel what's its like as you get faster. Your body needs to feel it, your legs, your lungs, your heart, your breathing, all will be different as you progress. It's also important to push your limit, your body will adjust,  but you need to know when to push, how much to push yourself. Sometimes, you just have to give it a try when you are feeling good and push yourself hard but know your limit. It feels really good when you PB, it's kind of like breaking down the barrier.
